Day 7 – At Sea

Apologies in advance, this will be a pretty boring blog.

It’s a nice slow start to the day today. Lisa is packing, and I’m using her phone to check-in for the flights home. We’re also watching a looping video of Cruise Director Michele tell us how the disembark process works. Basically they’ll provide tags for bags to our room, we put them outside our room by 11pm and they’ll take them down to the terminal for us. They schedule us a disembark time which will be shown on the telly. We can still get breakfast etc.

There’s a call from guest services, telling us that they have my preloaded money card. I’d lost this days ago but was convinced we had it somewhere, but froze it anyway. Turns out I left it in the ATM, what a prong!

We go for breakfast in WJ. Lisa eats sensible but full fry up for me, can’t resist. It’s an overcast day, and a moderate temperature, for the first time this week. We play a round of crazy golf and it’s a tie. Then we go to the Solarium to rest after such exertion. The overhanging hot tub beckons and there’s women’s lacrosse on the TV there. The lacrosse girls are taking chunks out of eachother. Three young women turn up to the hot tub and one poses by the window whilst the others take pics, presumably for The Gram. We leave.

We go back to our room and pack some more 😥. A crap film with Linsey Lohan and McFly is on, I fall asleep.

We decide to go for a snack and explore. Discover the Park Cafe in Central Park which has sandwiches etc. It’s on the deck below us and can’t believe we’ve missed it.

Down to the pizza parlour on Royale Promenade (Deck 5), two slices each. Then we walk past Bolero’s and there’s a dance lesson starting. It’s salsa, led by an Argentinian. It’s about three quarters women to a quarter of men. We stand at the back and join in. Lisa is a natural. I am very unnatural. My feet are going fine at first but when arm movement is involved it all goes to shit. The teacher tells us to smile and bend our knees before gyrating hips. “Right forward, feet together” etc. Lisa continues as Latino women shake their asses and seem overjoyed by doing so. A big man is sweating like a pig.

The dancing has made us thirsty, so go to Playmakers for a coke. Lisa beats me 5-1 at connect 4. Discover a room with some old school arcade games and table tennis. Lisa beats me 2-0. We head off to explore the last remaining areas we’ve not seen. A card room on Deck 14, with some serious looking people in. Then a secret entrance to the Solarium from Deck 14. Wonderland restaurant on Deck 12, themed around, you guessed it – Alice in Wonderland. There is no Deck 13 btw, the superstitious bastards.

Back to room to put cases in the corridor and get ready for dinner which is in the Solarium Bistro tonight. Lisa shows me her new waterproof jacket and reciprocate; thankfully we didn’t need them.

We head to SB early and hit the buffet, plus order a glass of Pinot each. Garlic and herb chicken among other things is consumed. The sun is setting so after dinner we go up on deck and take some pics.

The last thing we do is blow our casino money on the poker machine whilst supping on Pina Coladas. Money is spent bar 12¢ by 10pm, and then it’s off to beddie-byes. I check my gut in the mirror – it’s not been the healthiest of holidays or preceding weeks. This will take lot of undoing. Oh well one last decadent breakfast tomorrow 😋. All that’s on telly is a film with Christian Bale playing Moses, and it’s utter horseshit.

Here’s a couple of screenshots of the app that you need while on board. With it you book your restaurants/activities/shows, view deck maps, see your bookings, find out gangway drop/lift times and locations, check spending and get other handy hints. It’s useful.

I think this will be the last post – there doesn’t seem much point in covering the journey home. I’ve added some more photos to the past couple of days blogs btw.

Departures on our telly, we’re no. 28

Flight from Barcelona to Munich (LH1815) is at 15:35 and then Munich to LHR (LH2482) at 19:45, landing at 20:45. From experience LHR is slow to get out of so reckon we’ll be home around 22:30. See you all soon 😁😘
