Day 1 – Gatprick

Palma here we come! Hoping the weather is going to be ☀️

The travelling starts with a faff.

TFL (Twatpiece Flipping Laggards) have decided to close the bit of the Met line we needed to get to Farringdon. So we have to go the long way round, using the Piccadilly to Kings X and then Circle line.

As it was, Lisa wasn’t keen on the train but I’d convinced her it would be easy. I didn’t factor in this bullshit. Well done London 😤.

We plan to leave at 11 but because of the Piccadilly factor, and Lisa saying “we need to leave because everytime I look in the mirror I want to get changed again” we decide to leave early. I make the mistake of saying I can accommodate some of Lisa’s extra clothes in my case; before you know it the thing is bursting at the seams, with the fabric stretching / straining more than Nicki Minaj’s G-string.

Bus wanker

Bus goes to plan. Tube goes to plan (well, plan B), we even get seats on the Piccadilly despite the crowds at Rayners Lane. Change at Kings X to Farringdon, all to plan. Easy peasy.

Rayners Lame
Train wanker

Farringdon is a quick trot up and down the bridge to the Thameslink platform.

A train to Gatwick arrives within 3 minutes and we’re on our way. On board, we do a little swapping around of seats for more space but all good. A new born baby screeches half the journey, and a kid sits next to me seemingly going through tik toks with loudspeaker on a reasonable level. It sounds like he’s watching utter crap – no video holds more than 5s of his attention.

Farringdon

We beat the Evans’s to Gatwick. Sweeeeet. Although, if you know us, that was always going to happen.

“We’re 12 mins away” Stu says. We hang about, 25 mins later we see them arrive.

“I needed a piss” is the excuse. That must have been one long slasheroo.

Security: Lisa gets touched up for setting the buzzers off, Sue takes her shoes and walks around barefoot for no apparent reason, and I try and catch the grey trays with our bags which are flying out of the x-ray machine like an insane log flume.

After security – we’ve paid for My Lounge and so head there. First impressions are not great – we cannot find a seat together, it feels congested and food bar is limited. However after 5 mins we get a table together and Lisa downs 2 glasses of vino.

I eat a salad with couscous and then pulled pork in sauce on rice. Also pour myself a cheeky beer. Sue goes in for hard liquor – bacardi and coke. Lisa canes a baked potato.

We relocate to comfier seats. Then Stu has the freakiest meal of the day – a plate of beans with cheese on top.

Loungers

You’ll note that I’ve entitled this blog “Gatprick” – this could be one of many candidates during the day;

  • A little kid that kept knocking there back of my seat in the lounge
  • A woman in the lounge who had what seemed like an hour long phone call, later singing sang Jackie Wilson’s “Sweetest Feeling” badly and without any shame
  • Stu, who lacked any kind of urgency when we needed to get to the gate – dawdling along, going to toilet, looking at books, etc.

In my head I know who wins.

Dicking around
Heading to gate

Our flight is half empty. We paid to reserve seats… typical. Our flight home will be with Jet2 and with no seats reserved it has us booked us in all sitting apart.

At least I get a window seat, which is a rare event these days. The views are awesome. Snacks are a bag of dried sweetcorn – no thank you.

Up up and away
Glad we paid for seats…sheesh
Is that necessary?
Disembark

We arrive at Palma at about 18:30. Then thru security, a brusque Spanish man barks at me to take my glasses off for the fancy scanner. He had to say it 3 times which is why he barked. Chill out dude 🫤

No luggage to pick up so straight out to taxi rank. A quick “hablo inglese?” to female cabbie – “no” was the reply. But she understood “Hotel Bon Sol” and 40€ later we arrive. Luckily we have cash, which is the preferred payment.

We check in, see the rooms (will do more on this later) and then the receptionists say that we can decide today to pay €19pppd for either lunch or dinner for the rest of the week, or pay €40pp on a come as you go basis. We say we want to try the food tonight before deciding, which they say is fine.

The dining room is fancy; a piano player is tinkling the ivories and greenery/ paintings adorn the stone clad walls. We feel a bit scruffy since we’ve had no time to prepare but hey ho. Lisa has a little time to adjust but one rib-eye steak and glass of cava later she is cool like the Fonz. I also have steak and it was really good. We do the math and decide it’s a good meal deal and sign up – even if we only have 3 meals there we’re onto a winner.

After dinner, and feeling bilious, we explore. We take a lift down 2 levels, go through a tunnel, then down a lift 7 more levels, through another tunnel to the outside world. It’s rainy outside but we have a little walk around, see the sea, pools, etc. Pics below.

We’re all happy, and agree that Sue has picked well – the hotel has loads of character and the staff are lovely so all good, homies.

We’re having lunch here tomorrow and then checking out Palma probably so watch this space. Stu is also writing a blog so here starts the Battle of the Blogs. Well, let’s just agree that they will compliment one another, right?

Adiós mofo’s.

One response to “Day 1 – Gatprick”

  1. Nice work so far. I have questions, they will arrive privately. Looks good and they had my €19 when I heard rib eye.
