Day 6 – Adiós

This is a short blog about journey home.

Breakfast at 08:10, the breakfast room is less crowded than normal and finding a table in the conservatory is easy. Ladies are cooing over a baby.

Sausage, Bacon, Beans, Toast today. Antonio is not about 😞. Don’t fancy eggs on a travel day though.

Check out of hotel just before 10:00, we’ve spent about €100 on drinks during the stay so not too bad. There’s a €44 city tax though. There’s always a tax.

Cab to airport, first thing we see is that flight is delayed. Duty free area is hot and humid. We help ourselves to some free fragrance.

When you see it

We see a lot of people sat on the floor so this initially doesn’t look good. Have no idea what gate we’ll be at so we just decide to go to any gate and have a sit. Gate C has plenty of seats, shops. The card game continues and I take a beating. Sue is raking the points in – we normally play at night when she is tired, so she does badly. Today, she is reborn. I’m worried and want to finish paying so I can scoop the win.

Plane is coming in to Gate A18, so we walk for ages, get snacks, piss. Gin rummy points are tallied up. I win 🥳, followed by Lisa, Stu, and last but not least Sue. Better luck next time guys!

Stu totting up scores

We’re pretty much the last on the plane. We are all over the plane which is full unfortunately so strategically swap seats so that Sue and Stu are together-ish (Rows 3&7) and Lisa and me (Rows 23&24). Flight is about 1hr behind so not great. My neighbour is a lady and son, who are no trouble. I’m not chatty man today; earphones in, dingbats and Nirvana biography for me. Lisa passes me sweets from row behind.

Candyfloss

Security at Stanstead is bullshit. The queues are horrendous and we join the large snake. At the scanner I have passport upside down, an convinced that it’s not working because of a load of sticky mess on the screen. Try and go back, but get warned for not being behind the yellow line and I explain, lady security says you’ve got it the wrong way round darlin. I try again about 6 times and eventually it works. Lisa struggles that whole time too, but eventually gets it working like me. Sorry tourists, the UK can’t organise a piss up in a brewery.

Welcome home

Wait for Evans’s and they come through. A man with a flashing “Stuart” sign is their ride, Stu tries to get us on board but it’s extra so since we have train tickets we part ways.

Train wankers

We’ve had a great holiday with great company. We’ve had a real good laugh. Just brush up on the card skills guys 😁

I guess that’s where I’ll leave it, thanks and good night all 👊👊👊.
