Day 2 – The Wedding

Buongiorno Assholes.

We have slept well. The covers were a little thin but Lisa found some duvets. I still slept in my robe. Awake at about 0630, Lisa’s beauty routine has begun.

There is no Latte (milk). The phone has no reception symbol but dialling 9 connects me to Claudia in reception. She politely explains that normally it would cost €10 for them to bring milk to the room but on this occasion if she brought it herself it was ok. “Do you want hot or warm milk?” she says. I guess they don’t have many tea drinkers here. Here I go again, every bloody blog, blathering on about tea. I’m so Inglese. I think I keep saying Gratias instead of Grazie. There’s a fair bit of crossover with Spanish. But it’s embarrassing. Stupid Inglese. We’ve really got to up our Italiano game. Stu sends a picture of a jug of milk entitled “Lovely Latte”; he’s put in he same order the tea-guzzling bastard.

The beauty routine has kind of finished about 0830. I’m on the terrace, with a cup of americano and the sound of waves softly lapping in the background. No other sound, just waves, peace, tranquility. “Have you seen my deodorant? Oh hang on, found it” from Lisa, brings me back to reality.

A slight upgrade from a view of the Yeading Brook

Our view is a fort on a hill, the bay, and palm trees in the foreground. I can also see the infinity pool below. I’m in shorts but there is a slight chill. We’re expecting 25degs today so will be launching my infinite gut right into the infinite pool.

09:00 – Breakfast

We’ve only paid for bed and breakfast so looking to make the most of this meal. It’s served 7-10am, and is about half full, plenty of seating choice.

It’s a classic Euro buffet – cereal, fruit, cold meats, pastries, and a small cooked breakfast area.

Lisa starts eating and she says she doesn’t think much of the food – she’s eating rice crispies FFS.

The bacon is what can only be likened to those pigs ears that dogs chew on, pretty rank. Fried egg and mini hot dog sausages are good tho. Sue helps me find the vegan croissants. There’s something called Myrtle Jam which tastes like raspberry to me. To Stu’s disgust I have put salmon on my croissant/jam plate. After eating it I agree it doesn’t really go.

Can’t be described as bacon

We’ve been told that there is a wedding today and so we can’t use the pool 🤷. The GG’s are a bit miffed but this is offset by the chance to spy on the event.

The Room

Here’s some snaps of our room. It’s a good size and the balcony has a hot tub. Same deal for The Evs.

Bathroom is modern. It has a bidet for those stubborn clags. Next on the agenda is a mooch to explore the rest of the hotel and grounds.

12:00 The Beach

Due to the wedding, we opt for some time on the beach. It’s a little windy, but the sun is beaming is like like a microwave zap to the soul.

The Evs have made a Belgian friend, whilst they were hanging around to see the Bride. Her and husband are on the loungers next to us.

The lifeguard has brought a big platter of fruit and 3 bottles of bubbly to the beach, and says this is for everyone. We guess a token due to the closure of the pool. It’s about 13:00 and it goes down nicely. We have a chat with the Belgians, who are florists from Mons, would you believe (we stopped there on way to Lux). There’s a bit of a language barrier but not as much with the I-Ties. They are off to Cagliari after and we won’t see them again, so we wish them bon voyage, au revoir etc.

We have a little stop at the bar and get ice cream. Barman makes me a sorbet from scratch, which is nice.

15:00 Snack Run

Time to jump back in the toy car and head to Eurospar. The supermarket is clean and big and not many shoppers. Suits me.

Minecraft crisps
Wine in a carton. Would make a great addition to any packed lunch

16:00 Hot Tub

With the snacks successfully procured, we spend a couple of hours hot tubbing, chatting and playing gin rummy on our balcony.

The wet on the wall behind was the jet from the tub, turned on too soon

The wedding party are inside the restaurant now. At one point some fireworks go off from across the bay, which excites the Dale Sisters.

There were fireworks

19:30 Restaurant Search

The search for a restaurant that serves pasta and pizza is surprisingly hard. This whole town lives on seafood. We’ve found a place called Bonobo (yup, monkey-themed) and we head on over. Looks perfect, however the welcome guy says no room at the inn. He said we can book for tomorrow which we do. When he asks for a name he has obviously never heard the name “Rob” because he asks several times and I have to spell it. Stu says after that I should have said Roberto.

So we go on searching and find a livelier part of town. Stu parks a whole foot from the kerb, he’s missing his reverse camera.

Ultimately we opt for somewhere we’d shortlisted. It’s an American diner type place. A young dude welcomed us and then marches off. We’re not sure if we are to follow, so don’t. He comes back after 30s with another server and a smile when they realise we are fuckwits.

It’s pretty red
Hey! Stop looking at my wife’s phone
Americana

The whole meal costs €60 and was ok. Sue’s pizza was nice but soggy in middle. Stu and I have burgers, Lisa the Margherita pizza.

We have a short walk and head back to Hotel La Bitta. We get back for 22:00 and all are tired so nighty night 😴
